Full Description: Château with awe-inspiring views of the river Vienne. The château was built in 1870 and has a large, 17thC barn, three hectares of land with mature trees and river frontage ideal for fishing.
The market town of Isle Jourdain is only three kilometres away and has all amenities, shops, bars, supermarket, restaurants, post office as well as water sports provided by the river.
The château nestles halfway between the cities of Limoges and Poitiers where the small airports have regular flights to and from London.
A sweeping, stone staircase leads up to the front door and into the spacious hall one side of which are two large windows which welcome the morning sun. At the end of the hall there is the beautifully equipped, dining kitchen with large french doors leading onto the stone built patio. Although there is oil central heating there is a log burner installed for the chillier evenings of autumn when it is too early to have the central heating running. Across the hall from the kitchen is the spacious dining room, this room also has a wood burner which is surrounded by a marble fire place over which is an enormous antique mirror which will be included in the sale as are all the chandeliers. The lounge, which is called the yellow room, has two large West facing windows with, according to the present owners, the best views in the Vienne and I have to say, they are stunning.
Running along the length of the back of the château is a summer terrace with stone balustrade. Under the summer terrace is a covered terrace. Large double doors lead through to a spacious reception room or “the red room” with it’s beautifully polished wooden floor two large windows on one wall and arched window on another. Back out in the hall there is a little WC at the bottom of the tower. The winding, walnut staircase leads up to the first floor on which is another little WC. The wide hall with open aspect looking south towards the pond and extensive gardens where peacocks roam undisturbed with their young trotting obediently behind. Off the hall is bedroom 1 with WC and separate shower room and through an archway a dressing room or a child’s bedroom. Bedroom 2 is another family room with en-suite facilities, in this room is a marble fireplace. The master bedroom has en-suite facilities, which include a roll-top bath, power jet shower WC and wash hand basin. A large french window leads onto the balcony where, in my opinion is the most magnificent view of all. Through the en-suit bathroom is a large changing room. Another bedroom is situated through the changing room but also has a separate entrance off the hall.
On up again via the walnut staircase is the 2nd floor with nine rooms. Up again and you are in a little round room, which could be used as a study The attic is reached via another staircase and has magnificent maize of beams and rafters and of course even more spectacular views from the attic windows. The basement houses the utility room with exit into the garden, a cellar and a bathroom with WC as well as several other storage rooms.
The thirteen hectares of grounds are full of flower gardens, a pond, mature trees and plenty of private spots for a peaceful picnic or just to get away from it all and read a good book.
